Calves must be at least 10 days of age before they can be sold and UNDER 6 weeks of age.

If the number drawn is above half the number of pens entered, we go up to the last pen in the draw, then start at pen 1 and up to the number drawn.
Sheep Sellers All sheep including lambs presented for sale must be identified with a full set of EID tags, i.e. one conventional tag in the sheep’s left ear and a corresponding electronic tag placed in the sheep’s right ear. All sheep moved to and from a livestock mart must also be accompanied by a newly issued dispatch document containing a barcoded document serial number.

Numbers similar in the bullock ring and cull cow ring with 250 on offer here. Heifers were back in numbers. Some very good quality store bullocks on offer today and this led to a slightly improved trade in this ring. Cull cows were made up of 50/50 Friesians and Continentals today. Again forward cattle in all rings meet very good demand. A number of aged bulls on offer also and these made to €1,970 or from €1.33/kg to €1.78/kg.

Numbers similar to last week, but numbers of calves increasing. Again bulls a very good trade but some great quality of offer. Those forward bulls again a very fine trade. Heifers on offer were not of as a good quality this week but trade and demand for these was well improved. In the suckler cow ring in-calf stock made to €1,650. In the dairy section these made from €950 to €1,250. Friesian bull calves made €75 to €150. Continental calves made to €505. AA and Hereford calves made €150 to €430. Trade for hoggets improved slightly this week and made to €120, or to €65 over their weight. Cull ewes made €60 to €103.

Numbers similar in bullock and heifer rings but cull cow numbers back a shade, but still just short of 200 culls on offer. Bullock trade very strong especially forward bullocks of 550kgs upwards. Heifers slightly improved by €20/head. Forward cull cows meet a steady trade but feeders a shade easier. A number of aged bulls on offer and these made to €1,640 or from €1.20/kg to €1.72/kg.

Continental bull calves made to €600 and Continental heifer calves made to €485. Whitehead and Angus bull calves made €200 to €420 and heifer calves in these breeds made €140 to €300. Again weanling bulls and heifers similar trade with quality again to the fore. Some nice quality dairy stock made from €1,130 to €1,560. In-calf suckler stock made to €1,550 with pairs making to €1,650. Hoggets improved today by €3 per head upto €125 or to €73 over their weight. Cull ewes made €50 to €112.

Numbers increasing with the first of the calves to appear also and these meet good local demand. Friesian bulls made from €100 to €155. A few light AA bull calves made to €180. A number of cull cows on offer and these were nearly all Friesians and these were in good order. A good mix of both Continentals and traditional breeds available in the bullock and heifer rings and these meet a good local trade overall.

Good numbers on offer for our Annual Cattle Show & Sale. There was some cracking stock on offer but not a huge amount of beef. There was a lot of forward stock of 700kgs plus on offer that would make super cattle in 6 weeks plus. Cull cow trade was improved all round. Not many light stores around today. Nearly all Continental cattle about today in bullock and heifer rings.

Friesian bull calves generally made €55 to €80 for younger calves and stronger calves making €80-€150 Continental bull calves made to €400 and Continental heifer calves made from €320-€490. Whitehead and Angus bull calves made €170 to €340 and heifer calves in these breeds made €160 to €330. Again weanling bulls and heifers similar in numbers trade for bulls very strong with trade up to €30 per head dearer than previous weeks this was reflected in the 96% clearance rate with quality again to the fore. Some nice quality dairy stock made from €1,025 to €1,470. In-calf suckler stock made to €1,540 with pairs making to €2,240 for an exceptional limousin cow with a heifer calf at foot. Hoggets improved today by €7 per head up to €135 or to €76 over their weight. Cull ewes made from €70 to €110.

Kilrush Cattle Show & Sale Including Calves

Today Kilrush held its cattle show and sale with prizes for cows, heifers, and bullocks. This attracted good numbers with some top quality lots on offer. Dry cows fetched a lively trade with a mix of both Friesian and Continental cows. Top price for a Friesian cow was €1030. On average Frisian cows made from €1.50-€1.90 per kg. Cows in good order were particularly sought after. Top price Continental cow was €1720 for a Charolais cow weighing 910kg and they made up to €2.25/kg
Heifers were a lively trade especially with heavier lots with good farmer demand. The quality of heifers was clear with a Limousin heifer going under the hammer for €1710 she weighed 725kg. Heifers in general were a good trade with lighter heifers making up to 970 for a 360kg Charolais heifer. Bullocks again were of a very high standard with some excellent Hereford and Angus lots on offer. First prize winner Hereford bullock made €1360 weighing 630kg. Top price bullock of the day was €2580 for a super Blue cross Limousin weighing 1145kg. Calf numbers increased with twice as many as the week before. Light Friesian calves made from €70-€105 with older calves making up to €170 Farmers would be advised to keep calves at least 3 weeks before selling to achieve top prices. Hereford calves made up to €330 while Angus calves made from €190-€240 Calves attracted a good local farmer demand.

Numbers were slightly back from show day last but still some quality lots on offer. There were over 200 cull cows on offer. Numbers similar in bullock and heifer rings with nearly all continental bred cattle. Bullock trade very strong especially forward bullocks of 550kgs upwards. Heifers a good trade with lighter lots more sought after. Cow trade was steady with store cows slightly dearer on other weeks.

Friesian bull calves generally made €30 to €60 for younger calves and stronger calves making €70-€150 Friesian calves would want to be at least 3 weeks old and fed to meet customer demand. Continental bull calves made to €500 and Continental heifer calves made from €320-€470. Whitehead and Angus bull calves made €170 to €380 and heifer calves in these breeds made €160 to €330. Again, weanling bulls and heifers similar in numbers trade for bulls very strong with trade dearer than previous weeks this was reflected in the 95% clearance rate with quality again to the fore especially in the heavier lots. Heifers were a shade easier for lighter lesser quality heifers. Some nice quality dairy stock made from €1,040 to €1,480. In-calf suckler stock made to €1,770 with pairs making to €2,250 for an exceptional Charolais cow with a heifer calf at foot. Hogget’s up to €135 or to €76 over their weight. Cull ewes made from €60 to €100. Ewes and lambs made up to €170 for 3 Ewes with 6 lambs at foot.
