Only Stock 6 MONTHS OR UNDER will be sold in the Runner Section and they will be sold after the Calf Sale.
Calves must be at least 10 days of age before they can be sold and UNDER 6 weeks of age.

***Change to draw system for Bullocks, Heifers, Cull Cows, Weanling Bulls & Weanling Heifers – From 31st January 2022 – enter your stock as usual – if the number drawn is equal to or below half the number of pens entered, we go down to pen 1 and then up. If the number drawn is above half the number of pens entered, we go up to the last pen in the draw, then start at pen 1 and up to the number drawn.
Sheep Sellers All sheep including lambs presented for sale must be identified with a full set of EID tags, i.e. one conventional tag in the sheep’s left ear and a corresponding electronic tag placed in the sheep’s right ear. All sheep moved to and from a livestock mart must also be accompanied by a newly issued dispatch document containing a barcoded document serial number.

Numbers similar to last week in calf ring. Friesian bull calves generally made €30 to €60 for younger calves and stronger calves making €80-€180 Friesian calves would want to be at least 3 weeks old and fed to meet customer demand. Continental bull calves made to €610 and Continental heifer calves made from €320-€520. Whitehead and Angus bull calves made €180 to €380 and heifer calves in these breeds made €170 to €350. Again, weanling bulls and heifers similar in numbers trade for bulls very strong with demand exceeding numbers with quality again to the fore in all weight categories. Heifers were a shade easier for lighter lesser quality heifers but top-quality heifers met a great trade. Some nice quality dairy stock made from €1,040 to €1,5000. In-calf suckler stock made to €1,470 with pairs making to €1,650 for an exceptional Simmental cow with a heifer calf at foot. Hogget’s up to €149 or to €86 over their weight. Cull ewes made from €60 to €150.

Kilrush Mart General Cattle Sale Including Calves

Slight increase in numbers from last week. Dry cows fetched a lively trade with a mix of both Frisian and Continental cows. Top price for a Frisian cow was €1030, On average Frisian cows made from €1.50-€1.90 per kg. Cows in good order were particularly sought after. Top price Continental cow was €1210 for a Limousin cow weighing 700kg. Heifers were a lively trade especially with lighter lots with good farmer demand. The quality of heifers was clear with a Blue heifer going under the hammer for €690 she weighed 205kg that’s €3.36/kg. Heifers in general were a good trade with heavy heifers making up to 1040 for a 355kg Charolais heifer. Bullocks and bulls again were a good trade with lighter lots very sought after. Top price bull of the day was €920 for 2 Charolais weighing 307kg. Calf numbers increased with twice as many as the week before. Top price calf was €355 for Limousin heifer calf. Light Frisian calves made from €20-€60 with older calves making up to €140 Farmers would be advised to keep calves at least 3 weeks before selling to achieve top prices. Hereford calves made up to €330 while angus calves made from €185-€260 Calves attracted a good local farmer demand.

Numbers were again similar but there was quality lots on offer. There was a slight decrease in cull cows on offer. Numbers similar in bullock and heifer rings with nearly all continental bred cattle. Bullock trade very strong especially for top quality lots. Heifers a good trade with lighter lots more sought after. Cow trade was very dear for both stores and forward cows with store cows dearer on other weeks. Stock bulls up to €2,320 for a Limousin bull weighing 1,235kg.

Today Ennis Mart held its Mixed breed bull sale. With Angus, Charolais, Hereford and Limousin Bulls on offer with some excellent bulls present. Top price bull was €3,750 for a 5-star terminal Limousin bull. The top 4 priced bulls were all 5-star terminal bulls (3 Limousin 1 Charolais). Top price Angus was €2500. Top price Charolais was €3,030. Top price Hereford was €3,000.

Numbers much greater than in previous weeks with a doubling in calf numbers again this week. Friesian bull calves generally made €25 to €60 for younger calves and stronger calves making €80-€160 Continental bull calves made to €590 and Continental heifer calves made from €320 to €520. Whitehead and Angus bull calves made €170 to €370 and heifer calves in these breeds made €160 to €310. Again, for weanling bulls and heifers trade was very strong with trade up to €50 per head dearer than previous weeks for the heifers this was reflected in the 97% clearance rate with quality again to the fore. Some nice quality dairy stock made from €1,025 to €1,610. In-calf suckler stock made to €1,390 with pairs making to €1,820 for a Blue cow with a heifer calf at foot. Hoggets improved today by €8 per head up to €150 or to €92 over their weight. Cull ewes made from €70 to €135. Ewes with twin lambs made up to €200 and ewes with single lambs made to €170.

Examples of this are where quality Friesian calves made €120 to €220 and real poor calves made €20. Quality whitehead bull calves made to €325. Limousin bull calves made to €350. A fine lively trade in the bulls and bullocks and heifers similar in trade to last week. Very good demand for all cull cows.

Big numbers on offer today with almost 400 head on offer and this included 160 calves. Again, a similar story in the calf ring with good quality lots with a bit of strength meeting good demand and plain light calves been sold anywhere from €20 to €60. Better quality Friesian calves making €80 to €120. Angus and Hereford heifers making €100 to €180 and bulls in these breeds making to €305. Friesian cull cows made €1/kg to €320 over their weight. A handful of Shorthorn cross cows with calves @ foot made to €1320.

The annual winterage sale in Kilfenora saw a good entry meet with a very strong farmer demand. The quality on offer was excellent with outliers selling very well. Trade was brisk with plenty of farmers partaking as grass growth begins.

A large sale of lots over 1,200 head went under the hammer at Ennis mart today. Weanling trade is unchanged and continues to be very strong with buyers very active with grass growth starting. A large entry of suck calves met a strong farmer demand were a full clearance was achieved. Top price calf was €570 for a Charolais heifer calf. Friesian calves made from €70-€140 with lighter calves selling from €30-€60. Hereford and Angus calves made from €180-€355. Continental bred calves sold from €300-€570. In-calf suckler heifers sold up to €1,480. Suckler cows with calves at foot sold up to €2,040 for a Limousin cow with a Limousin calf at foot. Freshly calved dairy cows and heifers made from €1,170 up to €1,540. Sheep trade is holding firm with hogget’s making up to €142 for 52kg. Cull ewes made up to €140. Ewes with lambs sold to €260 for a ewe with twin lambs. Spring lambs were in high demand with pen of 10 lambs weighing 44kg sold for €167.

Bigger sale in Kilrush today with more bullocks and heifers available. Calf trade improved but it must be said that calves were stronger and in better condition. More demand for Friesian bulls from the shippers especially for the better quality lots with prices varying from €50 to €130 for shipping calves and up to €200 for stronger calves. Whitehead and Angus calves generally made from €120 to €250 with continental bred calves making to €350. Good mix of both Friesian and Continental cull cows about. Also, a lot of yearlings about today.

THURSDAY 29th MARCH 2018
Trade in Ennis mart today was very strong with over 900 lots of cattle on offer. Quality was more variable today in the bullock ring. Heavy cattle were in good demand and up on €30 dearer than previous weeks. Quality lots of bullocks in particular 500 kilos upwards were a strong trade. In the heifer ring both light and heavy heifers commanding a good trade with more forward heifers and fat heifers dearer on previous weeks with more feed lot buyers active. In the 4/5-star heifer sale, heifers between 300kg – 400kg sold best with these lots making between €1,000 and €1,260. Cows were met with a very strong demand with store cows an excellent trade. Aged bulls sold for an average of €1.88/kg with a top price of €2,160 for a CH bull.
