Entry System:
Entries for Tuesday Sales will be taken on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday (5pm) of the previous week for inclusion in the draw.
Entries for Thursday & Friday Sales will be taken on Thursday and Friday (5pm) of the previous week for inclusion in the draw.
Entries for Monday Sheep Auction taken on Friday of previous week.
The Runner Section:
Only Stock 6 MONTHS OR UNDER will be sold in the Runner Section and they will be sold after the Calf Sale.
Calves must be at least 10 days of age before they can be sold and UNDER 6 weeks of age.
Draw For First Pen To Be Sold in Weanling Bull and Bullock Ring
Draw for First Pen of Heifers to be Sold
***Change to draw system for Bullocks, Heifers, Cull Cows, Weanling Bulls & Weanling Heifers – From 31st January 2022 – enter your stock as usual – if the number drawn is equal to or below half the number of pens entered, we go down to pen 1 and then up. If the number drawn is above half the number of pens entered, we go up to the last pen in the draw, then start at pen 1 and up to the number drawn.
Sheep Sellers All sheep including lambs presented for sale must be identified with a full set of EID tags, i.e. one conventional tag in the sheep’s left ear and a corresponding electronic tag placed in the sheep’s right ear. All sheep moved to and from a livestock mart must also be accompanied by a newly issued dispatch document containing a barcoded document serial number.

Sales have continued to increase with farmers and agents all very active buying in anticipation of the improving ground and weather conditions. Weanling bulls and heifers have eased a little this week with quality also bit more variable all round with heifers affected more so than bulls. Trade was strongest for bull weanlings that were of higher quality. Suck calves met a strong demand where a nearly total clearance was achieved. Light Friesian bull calves sold from €30 up to €70 with stronger older Friesian bulls selling from €95 up to €200. Shippers more active now for a good calf. Angus/Hereford cross calves sold from €150 up to €390. Continental cross calves sold from €220 up to €540. In-calf suckler cows and heifers sold from up to €1,900. Suckler cows with calves at foot sold from €1,250 up to top price of €1900. Freshly calved dairy cows and heifers made from €1,000 up to €1,525. In-calf dairy cows sold from €700 up to €1,380. Sheep numbers increasing with prices still holding firm. A few spring lambs are now starting to come on the market. A pen of spring lambs weighing 42kg sold for €140. Hogget’s made to €145 for 60kg. Cull ewes sold to €156 and 3 ewes with 6 lambs sold for €237 each.

Numbers holding strong especially in the calf ring. Good farmer and shipper demand for the better calves. Friesian bulls for shipping made €50 to €130 and farmer type Friesians made to €170. Continentals made to €400 and Hereford & Angus calves from €130 to €300. Good mix of cull cows about and again very strong demand for these. The bullock and heifer trade held very steady despite the prevailing weather conditions.

Another large sale in Ennis this week with some quality lots on offer especially in the bullock ring. Trade holding reasonable firm despite still no improvement in ground conditions or grass growth. Lighter and plain cattle easier but forward lots holding. Both farmers and agents were active around all rings with forward cattle most sought after. Large number of cull cows on offer with excellent quality throughout with an excellent demand. Store cows suited for grazing were in strong demand. Stock bull sold to €1,800 for a Limousin bull weighing 1,050kg.

Trade was firm in Scariff on Saturday, which resulted in an excellent clearance rate for the stock on offer. Angus/Hereford calves sold from €130 up to €280. Bullocks and heifers were a similar trade with lots selling from €2.00/kg up to €2.74/kg
