About ClareMarts

Clare Marts is a farmer owned co-operative consisting of 2,500 shareholders. Clare Marts Ltd. has 4 sites with Ennis being the flagship and head office of the organisation.  The other sites are Kilrush, Scariff and Kilfenora. Sales are held weekly in Ennis.  On Tuesdays, weanlings, suckler stock, calves and sheep are on offer while on Thursdays we sell beef and store bullocks and heifers, dry cows and factory bulls, with a Friday sale in the springtime for dairy and sucker cows and some special pedigree and dispersal sales.  Sales in our other centres are seasonal and sale dates can be viewed on our sales diary.

Clare is renowned for the production of top quality weanlings and store cattle, which are produced from a well-established suckler base within the county.  These cattle are deemed very suitable for finishing at heavy carcase weights with customers from all over the country frequenting our sales particularly from the Midlands and Northern Ireland. The general base of the suckler cow herd within the county was of good type stock, however in order to further improve the quality of stock on offer The Society has, over a number of years provided several premia schemes to subsidise the purchase of top quality continental bulls.  These schemes have brought about a further improvement in the quality of stock available at our sales. Approximately 90,000 of these quality animals pass through our centres on an annual basis.

Entry System: 

Entries for Tuesday Sales will be taken on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday (5pm) of the previous week for inclusion in the draw.

Entries for Thursday & Friday Sales will be taken on Thursday and Friday (5pm) of the previous week for inclusion in the draw.

Entries for Monday Sheep Auction taken on Friday of previous week.

The Runner Section:

Only Stock 6 MONTHS OR UNDER will be sold in the Runner Section and they will be sold after the Calf Sale.

Calves must be at least 10 days of age before they can be sold and UNDER 6 weeks of age.

***Change to draw system for Bullocks, Heifers, Cull Cows, Weanling Bulls & Weanling Heifers – From 31st January 2022 – enter your stock as usual – if the number drawn is equal to or below half the number of pens entered, we go down to pen 1 and then up.  If the number drawn is above half the number of pens entered, we go up to the last pen in the draw, then start at pen 1 and up to the number drawn.

Sheep Sellers  All sheep including lambs presented for sale must be identified with a full set of EID tags, i.e. one conventional tag in the sheep’s left ear and a corresponding electronic tag placed in the sheep’s right ear. All sheep moved to and from a livestock mart must also be accompanied by a newly issued dispatch document containing a barcoded document serial number.

Big sale of cull cows and heifers today with 645 on offer. Great yard of store heifers available but beef was very scarce. Likewise in the cull cow ring as there was more store cows available, but strong demand for anything with good flesh. Cows over 700kgs a shade dearer, but anything under this weight was a shade easier and back 3-5c/kg. Heifers were easier today, back between 5-10c/kg, with heifers under 400kgs taking the biggest hit. Over 20 aged bulls available and these averaged €2.40/kg, with a CH bull weighing 1,205kgs hitting €2,830.

Very big sale today with yard full to capacity.  Mostly strong cattle today as it was Show & Sale day and some lovely quality available, especially in the heifer section and some excellent cull cows present in the 100 available.  Most of the bullocks were forward stores with some beef types through it.  A great yard of cattle overall.

Ennis Mart Weanling Bulls, Weanling Heifers, Runners Calves & Suckler Stock

Good size sale with just over 550 on offer.  Trade in the Bull Weanling ring similar to previous weeks and heifers holding also, but light average grade heifers in the 230kg to 280kgs bracket are that bit harder sold.  The nice quality runner bulls are a serious trade and topped €4/kg.  Only a handful of calves available and these made to €610 for a 6 week old CH bull calf.  Again a mixed bag in the suckler ring and these made to €2,030 for pairs.
