About Us

Clare Marts is a farmer owned co-operative consisting of 2,500 shareholders. Clare Marts Ltd. has 4 centres with Ennis being the flagship and head office of the organisation.  The other centres are Kilrush, Scariff and Kilfenora. Sales are held weekly in Ennis.  On Mondays we have a sheep auction, on Tuesdays weanlings, suckler stock, calves and runners as well as breeding bulls are on offer while on Thursdays we sell heifers, dry cows and factory bulls, with bullocks on a Friday. Sales in our other centres are seasonal and sale dates can be viewed on our sales diary.

Clare is renowned for the production of top quality weanlings and store cattle, which are produced from a well-established suckler base within the county.  These cattle are deemed very suitable for finishing at heavy carcase weights with customers from all over the country frequenting our sales particularly from the Midlands and Northern Ireland. The general base of the suckler cow herd within the county was of good type stock, however in order to further improve the quality of stock on offer the Society has, over a number of years provided several premia schemes to subsidise the purchase of top quality continental bulls.  These schemes have brought about a further improvement in the quality of stock available at our sales. Approximately 90,000 of these quality animals pass through our centres on an annual basis.

Entry System: 

Entries for Tuesday Sales will be taken on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday (5pm) of the previous week for inclusion in the draw.

Entries for Thursday & Friday Sales will be taken on Thursday and Friday (5pm) of the previous week for inclusion in the draw.

Entries for Monday Sheep Auction taken on Friday of previous week.

The Runner Section:

Only Stock 6 MONTHS OR UNDER will be sold in the Runner Section and they will be sold after the Calf Sale.

Calves must be at least 10 days of age before they can be sold and UNDER 6 weeks of age.

Draw For First Pen To Be Sold in: Weanling Bull, Weanling Heifer, Suckler Cows, Cull Cows, Heifers & Bullocks

Enter your stock as usual – if the number drawn is equal to or below half the number of pens entered, we go down to pen 1 and then up.  If the number drawn is above half the number of pens entered, we go up to the last pen in the draw, then start at pen 1 and up to the number drawn.

Sheep Sellers  All sheep including lambs presented for sale must be identified with a full set of EID tags, i.e. one conventional tag in the sheep’s left ear and a corresponding electronic tag placed in the sheep’s right ear. All sheep moved to and from a livestock mart must also be accompanied by a newly issued dispatch document containing a barcoded document serial number.

Good size sale today with just short of 500 cull cows and heifers on offer. Some great fleshed cows today also quite a number of forward type heifers. Cull cows could only be considered a serious trade with these up 30c/kg in some cases and heifers were up about 20c/kg. Four lots of cull cows exceeded €4,000. A good number of dairy culls available today. 10 aged bulls on offer today and these were a serious trade with an overall average of €3.95/kg, as a LM bull weighing 1,035kgs hit €4,460 and a CH bull weighing 1,035kgs made €4,000.

Big sale today in Kilrush with 437 on offer with 80 calves available and these were a serious trade. HEX calves made €60 to €520. FR bulls made €65 to €315 and AAX calves made to €160 to €465. Quite a number of light young stock available. Serious demand Fr cull cows and generally up 10 cents/kg or more. In general heifers up 15 cents/kg on the week. Lighter bullocks a great trade.

Big sale again today with just over 1,00 head on offer, which included 225 calves. The good weather helped trade as quite a few farmers out buying today. More of a mix of continental and dairy cross breeds available today. Bull weanlings over 300kgs up 5-10c/kg. Heifer trade up 10-20c/kg. Suckler pairs made to €4,000. Good demand for dairy stock and these made from €1,200 to €2,790. Calves were a cracking trade also with a 100% clearance. AAX calves made from €140 to €630 & BBX calves made to €800, with CHX calves making to €700. FR calves made from €50 to €280 & HEX calves made from €160 to €570.

Small sheep sale today with 300 sheep on offer. Good quality hoggets on offer today and these were a similar trade to last week. An overall average price of €3.84/kg for hoggets. Cull ewes were a strong trade again this week and averaged €2.66/kg, as 4 ewes weighing 100kgs made €284 & 7 ewes weighing 91kgs making €264.

Fine sale of bullocks again today with 547 on offer. Mostly store type stock available today and very few 2024 born cattle available. Bullocks over 600kgs up €10c/kg again and stores between 400kgs and 600kgs up 5c/kg. Bullocks under 400kgs up 20c/kg with some huge prices achieved. A three-year-old bullock of 840kgs hit €3,870.
