Calves must be at least 10 days of age before they can be sold and UNDER 6 weeks of age.

Sheep Sellers All sheep including lambs presented for sale must be identified with a full set of EID tags, i.e. one conventional tag in the sheep’s left ear and a corresponding electronic tag placed in the sheep’s right ear. All sheep moved to and from a livestock mart must also be accompanied by a newly issued dispatch document containing a barcoded document serial number.

Big sale today for the time of year with 783 on offer and trade was easier all round as factory quotes & weather conditions are definitely having an effect on confidence. The lighter plainer type of young stock have taken the biggest hit. Again a large entry of aged bulls, with many of them from the dairy herd as they averaged €2.01/kg with a top price of €2,480 for a 1230kg CH bull.

Big sale of sheep today with just over 800 on offer. Trade held pretty solid and in cases a shade dearer than last week. Cull ewes also a very good trade with a few lots breaching the €200 mark with 7 at 92kgs making €200 and €226 was achieved for 98kgs, and a single ewe at 116kgs hit €251.

The weather has definitely forced cattle out early, with many farmers with large lots today. Trade held quite well overall especially for slightly more forward stock. Sales now weekly in Kilrush.

Numbers similar to last week with some cattle not coming in due to farmers being busy at silage. Likewise, some farmers missing to buy lighter store cattle as bullocks between 400-500kg harder sold today. The top quality lots are holding a solid trade, but the plainer lots were tougher all round. Cows met a solid trade and heifers were similar to last week. Again a strong entry of aged bulls averaged €2/kg, with a top price of €2,200 for a 1105kg HE bull.

Again, the heavy well fleshed ewe of 126kgs hitting €278, and 5 @ 93kgs hitting €218 and 17 @ 91kgs making €229. Not big numbers of store lambs available but a share of lambs in the 42kg to 47kg lacking some flesh.

Our annual weanling show and sale was held today with over 700 on offer, and a 95% clearance was achieved. Some great quality weanlings on offer in both rings. Feeders and shippers drove the demand in the bull ring with bulls making to €4.41/kg. Farmers and feeders drove the demand in the heifer ring with some lovely breeding heifers making to €5.71/kg. An increase in runner numbers today, with bulls making to €930 and heifers to €690. A small entry of calves topped out at €525 for a 2-month-old LMX heifer. A small entry of sucklers made from €1,250 to €2,180. Weanling bulls in the 300-400kg category were very sought after and averaged 3.20/kg.

Just shy of 700 cattle on available today. The real good quality store bullock in 480-550kg category was a great trade with many of these making over €3/kg. Also there was more appetite for the forward types too. Again, some great quality heavy cows in the sale, but the dairy culls are still scarce. A great demand for the better type cows today. Some very strong prices for top quality heifers today. A smaller entry of aged bulls on off and these were mostly continentals that averaged €2.18/kg.

Bigger sale today with almost 400 on offer. More calves available today with 40 of these on offer. These made to €660 for a 6-week-old Limousin bull calf. Also, runner numbers increasing with almost 100 of these on offer and heifer runners made to €880 and runner bulls topped out at €1,050 for a Charolais bull at 280kgs. Again, in the bull weanling ring shippers bull beef customers and farmers very active. Some shipping activity in the heifer ring today, together with farmers customers. Limited numbers of suckling stock today and nearly all pairs, and these made to €2,090 and in calf lots made to €1,720.
