The Runner Section:
Only Stock 6 MONTHS OR UNDER will be sold in the Runner Section and they will be sold after the Calf Sale.
Calves must be at least 10 days of age before they can be sold and UNDER 6 weeks of age.
Draw For First Pen To Be Sold in: Weanling Bull, Weanling Heifer, Suckler Cows, Cull Cows, Heifers & Bullocks
Enter your stock as usual – if the number drawn is equal to or below half the number of pens entered, we go down to pen 1 and then up. If the number drawn is above half the number of pens entered, we go up to the last pen in the draw, then start at pen 1 and up to the number drawn.
Sheep Sellers All sheep including lambs presented for sale must be identified with a full set of EID tags, i.e. one conventional tag in the sheep’s left ear and a corresponding electronic tag placed in the sheep’s right ear. All sheep moved to and from a livestock mart must also be accompanied by a newly issued dispatch document containing a barcoded document serial number.

Reasonable entry of sheep today with just over 400 on offer. Overall trade very similar to last week with better lots getting in around €4/kg with an average for hoggets of 3.85/kg. Again, a great trade for cull ewes and these averaged 2.22/kg and made to €2.50/kg, these include 4 @ 87kgs made €218 and 6 @ 74kgs made €173 and 1 @ 107kgs made €248. A handful of ewes and lambs available and these made to €330.

Big sale today with over 1,100 on offer and this included 180 calves. Fine trade for the good calves yet again and FR bulls made €30 to €270 depending on strength. HEX calves made €150 to €520 & AAX calves made from €190 to €560. Continental calves made to €740. A small entry of dairy stock made from €1,520 to €2,120 for 2nd to 4th calvers. Small entry of suckler stock also and these were an exceptional trade with pairs hitting €5,040 and in-calf lots making to €2,950. Quite a number of weanlings under the 300kg mark and farmers seem to be selling stock earlier due to prices. In general prices up at least 15c/kg on last week in both the bull and heifers.

Cull cow numbers back a bit today but heifer numbers holding very strong. Some great forward heifers available today. The fleshed cull cows were a serious trade yet again and up about 10c/kg on the week. The top heifers averaging over €4/kg. Good heifer over 600kgs up about 10c/kg on the week. A dozen aged bulls today averaged €3.29/kg as a CH bull of 1,035kgs hit €3,510. A 100% clearance was achieved in both rings today.

Sheep Auction
Good size sheep sale today with 557 sheep on offer. Trade for hoggets was easier today by about 10c/kg, as €4/kg was very hard got. Hoggets around the 50 kg mark were making as much as heavier hoggets weighing up to 60kgs. Cull ewes held the trade well, with €2-2.30/kg achieved. Ewes with lambs made to €305 for ewes with single lambs and up to €440 for ewes with pairs. There will be no sheep sale next Monday 17th March.

A similar story in the heifer ring. Calves a great trade also with the ring full of buyers. FR bulls made from €65 to €330. HEX calves made from €70 to €480 & AAX calves made €170 to €400. Continental calves made to €680. A small entry of dairy stock made from €1,650 to €2,700 for mostly 2nd to 4th calvers. Fine entry of cull cows & heifers today with just over 500 on offer and 24 aged bulls available also. Aged bulls were a super trade with 8 bulls exceeding €4,000, as a LM bull weighing 1,065kgs made €4,740 and a CH bull weighing 1,130kgs hit €4,400. Again quite a number of forward type heifers today and these averaged €4.25/kg. Heavy cows over 700kgs averaged €3.80/kg. Cows up 10c/kg on the week and heifers were up 10-15c/kg.

Sheep Auction
Small sheep sale today with 300 sheep on offer. Good quality hoggets on offer today and these were a similar trade to last week. An overall average price of €3.84/kg for hoggets. Cull ewes were a strong trade again this week and averaged €2.66/kg, as 4 ewes weighing 100kgs made €284 & 7 ewes weighing 91kgs making €264.
