Entry System:
Entries for Tuesday Sales will be taken on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday (5pm) of the previous week for inclusion in the draw.
Entries for Thursday & Friday Sales will be taken on Thursday and Friday (5pm) of the previous week for inclusion in the draw.
Entries for Monday Sheep Auction taken on Friday of previous week.
The Runner Section:
Only Stock 6 MONTHS OR UNDER will be sold in the Runner Section and they will be sold after the Calf Sale.
Calves must be at least 10 days of age before they can be sold and UNDER 6 weeks of age.

***Change to draw system for Bullocks, Heifers, Cull Cows, Weanling Bulls & Weanling Heifers – From 31st January 2022 – enter your stock as usual – if the number drawn is equal to or below half the number of pens entered, we go down to pen 1 and then up. If the number drawn is above half the number of pens entered, we go up to the last pen in the draw, then start at pen 1 and up to the number drawn.
Sheep Sellers All sheep including lambs presented for sale must be identified with a full set of EID tags, i.e. one conventional tag in the sheep’s left ear and a corresponding electronic tag placed in the sheep’s right ear. All sheep moved to and from a livestock mart must also be accompanied by a newly issued dispatch document containing a barcoded document serial number.

Numbers smaller than last week but still 1,070 lots on offer. Quality getting quite variable but again quality lots were an exceptional trade. Heifers slightly tougher on the week. The shippers were quiet today in the bull ring also and more farmers about. The best trade in the bulls was the top quality charolais and limousins in the 320kg to 360kg bracket at the top end and also nice store calves in the 230kg to 260kg bracket. Again another large entry of runners and heifer runners hit €660 and bulls hit €855. A selection of in-calf heifers made €1,120 to €1,450. Pairs in the suckler ring made to €1,520. The sheep trade was firm with a handful of wholesaler lambs making to €120 but factory lambs generally making €90 to €97. Cull ewes made €66 to €94.

WEDNESDAY 16th October 2019
Big sale again in Kilrush with almost 400 head on offer. There was a large entry of bullocks. It was mostly traditional breeds in the bullock and heifer sections but predominantly dairy type cull cows and numbers in this section not as large as anticipated. Many farmers and specialized feeders still finding it very hard to get cattle killed as there seems to be a huge backlog still in the system. The average and poorer quality stock are a tough trade overall especially heifers. There were some lovely quality whitehead bullocks many of which would grade ‘R’.

Scariff General Cattle Sale including weanlings

Scariff Mart Saturday 19th October 2019
Reasonable size sale in Scariff on Saturday last with a good mix of stock available. Some nice quality weanlings on offer and these were met with good farmer demand as there was no export activity. The quality heifers were also a good trade with farmers active.
