The Runner Section:
Only Stock 6 MONTHS OR UNDER will be sold in the Runner Section and they will be sold after the Calf Sale.
Calves must be at least 10 days of age before they can be sold and UNDER 6 weeks of age.

If the number drawn is above half the number of pens entered, we go up to the last pen in the draw, then start at pen 1 and up to the number drawn.
Sheep Sellers All sheep including lambs presented for sale must be identified with a full set of EID tags, i.e. one conventional tag in the sheep’s left ear and a corresponding electronic tag placed in the sheep’s right ear. All sheep moved to and from a livestock mart must also be accompanied by a newly issued dispatch document containing a barcoded document serial number.

Again around 300 sheep on offer and more cull ewes amongst these today. The trade only goes from strength to strength especially for the good quality hogget’s and €3/kg was breached a number of times for these. Very few light or store lambs today. Cull ewes also a cracking trade and made €75 to €137.

Fine size sale today with almost 800 on offer. Calf numbers a bit smaller than expected but great trade all round for these. It’s definitely encouraging to see calves well presented with a good deal of strength in them and this is helping to produce a very good trade. Quality Friesian bull calves making €80 to €135 with lighter lots making €30 to €70. A BB bull calf made €495 at a month old. AA bulls made to €310 and trade similar for Whitehead calves. In-calf suckler stock made to €1,910 today. Pairs topped out at €1,800. The weanlings were a strong trade all round and heifers were especially strong.

Good increase in numbers today in all classes of stock. Calves appeared today also in good numbers and the calves with strength a good trade. The better Friesian bulls made to €100 but the light handy calves made €25 to €50. AAX calves made to €225 and Continentals made to €330. Trade was good with buyers from Cork, Meath, Laois, Offaly, Limerick and Tipperary competing for the bullocks and heifers.

Bigger sheep sale again today with almost 400 on offer. Trade very strong yet again and up on price again from last week; and a top price of €173 was achieved for a pen of 13 at 55.5kgs. Cull ewes also a cracking trade and have made to €130. However good quality on offer today.

Big sale today with 3 rings going strong all day with over 1,000 head on offer with 225 calves in this. Trade was very strong in all categories today with 99% clearance in the calves and a 95% clearance in other classes of stock. Again a good run of calves available and nice Friesian bulls made €60 to €130 and light calves made €30 to €50 despite no shippers available. A smashing Limousin bull calf hit €650 and many lots of Continentals hitting €400 and over. AAX reached a high of €315 and Whiteheads hit €280 to €365. Suckler pairings hit a high of €2,580 for a ’16 born Limousin cow and Charolais bull calf at foot. In-calf lots made to €1,870.

Smaller sheep sale today with just over 200 on offer. Yet again new headlines have been hit in respect of Hogget prices. A top call of €181 was achieved for a pen of 12 at 55kgs. A pen of 18 stores of 38.5kgs made €125. The quality was more variable today in the hogget’s. The high prices of hogget’s had a knock-on effect on the cull ewes and these went to €146.

Due to no sale on St Patrick’s Day, a calf sale was held on Monday afternoon to facilitate farmers that may have been under pressure to off load some calves. Trade could only be described as excellent for calves on offer with a queue of farmers anxious to purchase.
Friesian bull calves made €45 to €140.
Continental bull calves made €225 to €370.
Hereford calves made €235 to €370.
Next Sale in Kilrush on Wednesday the 24th March.

Big sale today with over 1,000 head on offer. Trade was strong in all rings today and it was the first day we had some dairy stock on offer and these were a super trade, with cows in their 4th to 6th lactations making €1,430 to €1,970 for good British type cows. Suckler stock also very strong with pairs making up to €2,730 and in-calf stock making to €1,470. Calves a great trade with Friesian bulls making €50 to €190. A few very light calves made €10 to €40. HEX calves made €185 to €400 with Continental calves making to €475. AAX made €175 to €375. Both weanling bulls and heifers a very strong trade.

Numbers solid in the cows and heifers today and trade could only be described as very positive all round. Some very good cows on offer with plenty of beef on them and these were a great trade with one customer having 30 cows standing €2.04/kg. Heifers a great trade also and very good heifers in it and a few exceptional prices for a few super heifers. Some good aged bulls on offer also and again a very strong trade.

Today we had a lot of cattle in the 650kg upwards that were too fleshy for grass but need at least 2 to 3 months heavy feeding to finish and quite a few of these were 30 months and plus. Not quite as many customers today but quality stores held a fine trade despite this.

Just over 300 sheep on offer again today. The good hogget’s a great trade yet again with a pen of 12 at 51kgs hitting €184. A few spring lambs appeared today and 7 at 39.5kgs made €154. Demand not as strong for the store hogget’s today, as the change over to spring lamb will commence shortly. Again, cull ewes a strong trade and made to €133. A handful of ewes and lambs available today and a ewe hogget with a pair of lambs made to €282.

Today we had a mixed breed pedigree bull sale. 50% of the bulls offered for sale found new homes. Aberdeen Angus made to €1,525 while Whiteheads made €1,400 to €2,500. Charolais sold to €2,675. Limousines were the breed with most lots on offer and these made €1,700 to €2,750.

Big sale today with almost 1,100 head on offer which included 230 calves. Again trade pretty strong overall. A dash of aged dairy cows made to €1,510. Suckler pairings made to €1,980 and incalf lots made to €1,400. Light Friesian bull calves made €25 to €75 with better calves making €80 to €155. AAX calves made €195 to €255. Whitehead calves made €245 to €375. A good Charolais bull calf made to €530. Some nice quality BBX calves made to €455. Trade for the bull and heifer weanlings similar to last week, quality a bit more variable in the bulls, but a better run of heifers in it.

Big yard of stock in Kilrush today with just 400 head available. A fine trade was recorded for the calves, but calves were well presented today and a full clearance was achieved. Lighter Friesian bulls for shipping made €25 to €70 whereas the better ones made €80 to €105. Quite a number of Whiteheads today and these making €170 to €315. AAX made €170 to €220. A full clearance in the cull section also with 50 of these on offer. Very strong trade in both the bullock and heifer ring also.

Hoggets a shade easier, back a few euro a head but top quality lots holding very strong with €183 being hit. Cull ewes made €62 to €156 with huge demand for these, especially the fleshed ewes.

Very big sale today with over 1,100 head on offer which included 260 calves. The lighter Friesian bull calves made €50 to €80 with the better calves making €90 to €160. Very good trade for beef breeds in the calf ring with HEX calves making to €395, BBX calves making to €460 and Limousin and Charolais calves made to €475. AA claves a very good trade also and made €185 to €295. Strong trade in suckler ring but good pairs available today and these made to €2,210. A handful of dairy stock today made to €1,560. A strong trade was recorded for both bull and heifer weanlings today.
